In 1993, Oklahoma City voters committed to invest in the future of their city, by voting to approve a one-cent sales tax to fund a program to improve the quality of life in Oklahoma City. Projects included in the MAPS (Metropolitan Area Projects) program are built debt free. Due to the success of the original MAPS program, voters have approved 3 more programs. The MAPS 3 program funds eight projects, including trails that promote a more active lifestyle through providing walking and biking trails that circle the city. The Will Rogers Trail represents the western section of the inner loop of the trail system and links Lake Hefner with the North Canadian River. MAC was selected to lead the design and engineering of the trail.
